Course Structure

Thesis option candidates must successfully complete a coordinated sequence of eight courses and graduate research, and must submit a master’s essay (or “thesis”). The MSE program typically requires three to four semesters of full-time resident graduate study.
Candidates for the non-thesis M.S.E. program must successfully complete a coordinated sequence of ten courses. A master’s essay or thesis is not required for this graduate degree, which typically requires three semesters of full-time resident graduate study.

Text / Exam Scores

GRE is required for all applicants. There are no minimum score requirements for the GRE for an application to be considered, nor are GRE subject tests required. Applicants whose native language is not English must submit proof of their proficiency in English via a TOEFL or IELTS before they can be offered admission and before a visa certificate can be issued. The Mechanical Engineering department will accept TOEFL scores less than two years old.
