Federal Financial Aid for Graduate Students

Course Structure
All students must take at least 18 points of graduate work in the IEOR Department (denoted by courses with the IEOR designation) and at least 30 points of graduate studies at Columbia. In addition to courses within the engineering school, students can also take electives from various schools within the university, such as Columbia Business School, the School of International and Public Affairs, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Law.
International Exchange & Double Degrees
The joint M.S. and M.B.A. degrees program offered by the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Graduate School of Business train students interested in combining business and engineering careers.This option is available for students in the Industrial Engineering, and Operations Research programs. These joint degrees can be obtained after five terms of full time study. M.S.O.R./M.B.A. candidates are expected to complete a program of study that includes 30 points in School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) and 45 points in the School of Business.
Internships
There are opportunities available for first and second year students, including some CU sponsored programs. Using general search engines will be a good starting point. It is also important to consider sources beyond on-campus recruiting for internship positions, such as volunteer and community activities, research for professors, and part-time positions.

Research is conducted in the area of logistics, routing, scheduling, production and supply chain management, inventory control, revenue management, and quality control. New developments are being explored in operations research.

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE General Test only) is required of all applicants. Students whose bachelor’s degree was not earned in a country where English is the dominant spoken language:
1. Are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
2. Are required to take Columbia’s American Language Program (ALP) English Placement Test (EPT) at orientation upon arrival.
