Scholarships

The University of Washington-Seattle has many scholarship opportunities available to our students. We provided about $19 million in scholarships to about 2700 of our undergraduate students in the past year.

  • Academic Scholarships are awarded to a limited number of undergraduate students who are legal residents of Washington state. Approximately 900 awards from privately donated funds are given each year to students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and financial need.
  • UW Undergraduate Academic Excellence Awards are awarded to about 50 incoming freshmen per year, with four-year tuition waiver awards of $3,000 per year. Students must be Washington residents and demonstrate financial need.
  • Mary Gates Scholarships are prestigious awards given to one or two Washington residents per year. The award covers up to tuition and books for four years. Financial need is considered but is not a requirement.
