Course Structure
Four major components make up the flexible curriculum. You choose what you take and when – based on your experience, education and goals.
- Foundation courses focus on developing analytical tools and knowledge that support the rest of the curriculum.
- Functions, Management, and Business Environment cover basic business functions (finance, marketing and operations); management (decisions, people and strategy); as well as the business environment in which firms operate.
- Electives cover 14 concentrations, offering students the chance to explore a topic more deeply.
- Leadership training is so critical, it’s the only required class. All students must take Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD), where they’ll work on key management skills such as negotiation, team-building, and giving feedback.
The Full-Time MBA Program consists of 20 classes plus LEAD.
International Exchange & Double Degrees
Chicago Booth is part of one of the greatest research institutions in the world -the University of Chicago. Through chicago joint degree programs, you can increase the value of your MBA by combining it with a degree from one of the University’s other world-renowned programs.
Joint degree programs
If you want to go beyond the MBA and develop specialized expertise and credentials, you have several options. Through access to courses at the University of Chicago, you can further tailor your program of study to suit your career goals by earning :
- A joint degree from professional schools in law, medicine, public policy, or social services administration
- A joint degree in international relations or area studies
- A certificate in Health Administration and Policy
- MBA/AM in International Relations : The MBA and AM in international relations degree allows students to complement their business education with the study of the role of ideas, interests, and power in shaping international relations. Students take theoretical and interdisciplinary courses in international relations and write a master’s thesis tailored to fit their specific interests and career goals.
- MBA/AM in Area Studies : The MBA and AM in area studies degree allows students to develop an expertise in a specific geographic area, including East Europe/Russia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, or South Asia. This program is ideal for students planning a career requiring both a complete set of international business skills and thorough knowledge of international issues, cultures, or regions.
International MBA :
Students hoping to gain a deeper understanding of global business issues can pursue an International MBA (IMBA) degree. The IMBA builds on the Chicago MBA by including five international business courses, one academic term of study abroad, and a second language proficiency. Because the IMBA is a two-year program and rigorous in nature, we recommend that students enter the program with a strong second language proficiency.
Study Abroad
International Business Exchange Program (IBEP) – Students seeking academic, cultural, and social experiences overseas can study abroad through our International Business Exchange Program (IBEP). Through IBEP, Chicago Booth students spend one academic term abroad at one of our 33 partner schools situated in 21 countries around the world.
