The Materials Science Program provides excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research through its ~60 faculty leading internationally-acclaimed research programs from a broad diversity of departments throughout the UW-Madison campus.
Industrial and systems engineering is the most people-focused area in engineering. Those who pursue careers in ISyE generally have strong leadership skills and a commitment to working with teams of managers, scientists and other personnel to solve important problems. They enjoy helping organizations serve human needs and accommodate many different concerns.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering is designed to be completed in four to five years, including summers, of full-time study beyond the Bachelor of Science degree.
Doctor of Philosophy candidates must pass a screening exam procedure throughout their first year of study, a qualifying exam when they begin their dissertation research, and an oral defense of their dissertation at the end of the program.
