Scholarships
ECE Departmental Scholarships
Scholarships in variable amounts are awarded annually by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). Scholarships are available to ECE undergraduates and to Engineering General Resources (EGR) students expecting to be admitted to the ECE department for the term of the scholarship.
Grainger Textbook Scholarship
The Grainger Foundation has established a textbook scholarship for declared Computer Engineering (CMPE) or Electrical Engineering (EE) majors who are either US citizens or permanent residents.
Grants Information Collection
The Grants Information Collection (GIC) is a collection of print and electronic materials available to students who wish to help fund their university expenses with money other than scholarship aid.

Course Structure
The Electrical Engineering (EE) undergraduate curriculum ensures sufficient breadth and depth in EE, engineering at large, science, mathematics, as well as non-technical subjects. Course requirements within the EE program can be divided into two levels. The first level consists of courses that every EE student must complete. The second level is comprised of EE Advanced Electives and EE Laboratories. You are required to take at least one course from each of three groups; the three are selected from a list of six. You must also take two labs.
International Exchange & Double Degrees
IESP
International Engineering Studies and Programs (IESP) is a service unit within the College of Engineering that prepares UW-Madison engineering students to study abroad. As an IESP participant, you can choose from more than 50 study abroad programs in the Americas, Asia and the Pacific, and Europe and most programs are available for a semester or year.
International Academic Programs (IAP)
International Academic Programs (IAP) offers over 150 study abroad programs to UW-Madison students across campus. Instruction is in a wide range of languages, including many options in English.
Internships
Cooperative Education and Internship Program
Students gain invaluable “real world” engineering experiences working with a variety of industries and governmental agencies throughout the world during our dynamic co-op/summer intern program. Employers have the opportunity to hire outstanding students early in their engineering education and to participate in the education process while pre-screening potential full-time hires.
COOPERATIVE EDUCATION.
Requires the completion of up to 12 months of engineering experience distributed over three work terms. Participants are undergraduates and typically begin during the sophomore or junior years. The three work terms are comprised of summers and semesters.
THE MODIFIED CO-OP
Begins in January or June and provides continuous employment for approximately eight months. This co-op lends itself best to employers with project-based work that requires more extensive training. Undergraduates may participate during the sophomore, junior or senior years.
THE SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
For employers seeking undergraduate or graduate students during the summer months. These assignments provide students exposure to engineering while enabling the employer to fill short-term project needs.
Requirements
Research & Technical Papers
Honors in Research
Objectives and Goals of the Program
The Honors in Research program gives an undergraduate the opportunity to participate in a research project under the direction of a faculty member. It is expected that the student will be actively involved in research that could lead to new knowledge. The project can be independent or a component of a larger team effort. The research culminates in a senior thesis that the student presents in an Honors Seminar.
Text / Exam Scores
- Scores from either the ACT or the SAT are required and must be sent directly from the testing agency. College also requires the standardized writing test.
- Students for whom English is not their first language, and who have studied in a language other than English must take an official test of English as a foreign language. UW–Madison accepts both the TOEFL and the IELTS tests.
