Course Structure
Faculty and students in computer science investigate a wide range of topics, including ground-breaking work in provably secure cryptography, the implementation of sensor nets, developments at the interface of economics and computer science, and discoveries in VLSI.
Computer science is of course about creating code and running software, but it takes more than clever keystrokes to go from an idea to an end product or solution. It takes teams of people.
computer science curriculum is designed to offer students a great amount of flexibility—with time for related study and for outside opportunities, from sports to clubs to hobbies. You can readily combine your studies with other fields, including mathematics, physics, economics, psychology, and linguistics.

Undergraduate research opportunities in engineering and applied sciences
Opportunities for undergraduates to conduct research in engineering, the applied sciences, and in related fields abound at Harvard. As part of your coursework, or perhaps as part of individual research opportunities working with professors, you will have the chance to undertake some extraordinary projects covering topics ranging from bioengineering to cryptography to environmental engineering.
SEAS dedicated undergraduate research facilities and Teaching Labs also provide opportunities for students to engage in hands-on learning. SEAS encourage undergraduates from all relevant concentrations to tackle projects during the academic year and/or over the summer.
Keep in mind, many students also pursue research at private companies and labs as well as at government institutions like the National Institutes of Health
Looking forward, the faculty have identified five long-terms goals to support advancement in teaching and research:
1. Retain and attract first rate computer science faculty and graduate students;
2. Offer an academic program at the undergraduate level that is accessible to students with varied backgrounds;
3. Offer courses that are attractive to students outside the concentration;
4. Work with other departments and schools to provide rigor and depth in interdisciplinary fields; and
5. Bolster efforts to support computation for society.
