Concrete Canoe Competition.
UW’s Concrete Canoe team does just what you’d think.They build a concrete canoe. Following challenging rules and regulations set forth by ASCE’s Committee on National Concrete Canoe Competitions, a concrete mix is designed in the fall and the canoe assembled during winter quarter.
Steel Bridge Competition:
This inter-collegiate challenge requires civil engineering students to design, fabricate and construct a steel bridge model based on competition specifications. The competition is co-sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

There are two ways to be admitted to this department
1) Early Admission – for freshman completing their first year in college plus specific prerequisites courses.To be considered for early admission, applicants must be currently enrolled at the UW and have completed all early admission prerequisite courses prior to the July 1 application deadline, with a minimum grade in each of 2.0 and a cumulative prerequisite GPA of 2.5 or higher.
2) Upper Division Admission – typically at the end of the sophomore year after completion of all the prerequisite courses. Satisfactory completion of 75 quarter credit hours applicable towards the B.S.A.A.E. graduation requirements with a minimum overall GPA of 2.75.
3) Also be sure to set up your NetID as soon as you receive your application acknowledgement letter from the UW admissions office. You will use this NetID to log in to the College of Engineering on-line application.
