There are a number of Departmental and University fellowships for which you will automatically be considered if admitted. We encourage applicants to apply for fellowships from sources other than U.C. Berkeley. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are particularly encouraged to apply for the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Defense Science and Engineering (NDSEG) fellowships. Course Structure
Minimum of 24 units required:
- 10 units of 200 series (excluding 298, 299) in EECS
- 4-10 units of 299 for PLAN I or 3-6 units of 299 for PLAN II remainder can be 100 or 200 series (do not have to be EECS courses, excluding 298 and 299)
- All courses must be taken for a letter grade, EXCEPT for 299s which are taken for the S/U option.

Internships
The EECS Internship Program places top Berkeley EE and CS majors in competitive and challenging summer assignments in industry. The program is a joint effort between industrial representatives and Berkeley the EECS Industrial Relations Office. (IRO) While the program has an electrical engineering and computer science focus, it is open to University of California, Berkeley graduate and undergraduate students in any field.
